Dijon, the capital city of the prestigious wine country of Burgundy is a richly historic city, with one of the best preserved medieval centers in all of France. The city of Dijon can be found to the southeast of Paris, less than two hours away by train. Serving previously as the capital of the dukes of Burgundy, the town is full of wonderful surprises throughout.
Dijon is architecturally fascinating, complete with lavish town houses as well as half timbered structures with cafes and shops at the bottom and living abodes above. Marvelous architectural works adorn the city of Dijon: Saint Beningne, which had been constructed on the foundations of a monastery in 1001, holds the treasure of carvings within, which express many themes. The Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne (the palace of the dukes of Burgundy is a wonderful site, including the Museum of Art and the Tour de Philippe le Bon that offers a fantastic view of Dijon. In the evenings, it is wonderful to gather around the fantastic fountain, across from the Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne and enjoy the fountain’s magnificent colors.
